East China’s Jiangsu province will coordinate the promotion of the protection of the ecological environment and cultural heritage of the Grand Canal and promote the integration of cultural tourism, according to a new document released by the provincial government recently.
The land space of the core monitoring area of the Jiangsu section of the Grand Canal will be placed under classified control and management, according to the document.
The management system of land and space access list will be implemented in the riverside ecological space and the urban core monitoring areas, the document said.
It is forbidden to add non-public welfare construction land in the riverside ecological space, and no new residential areas will be added outside the existing rural residential areas.
Large-scale construction and expansion of real estate, theme parks, and projects that are not conducive to ecological and environmental protection are prohibited other than those for military and diplomatic purposes and infrastructure, public utilities projects.
In cities and towns, it is strictly forbidden to implement construction projects that do not meet the requirements of industrial policies, planning and control, strengthen the management and control of the transformation of the old city and prohibit the adjustment of various types of land for commercial, office, residential, and commercial housing purposes.
Measures must be taken to strengthen the overall protection of the natural and cultural landscapes along the Grand Canal so as to ensure that the harmonious co-existence of the urban scenery and the canal landscape.
