East China’s Jiangsu province has stepped up its efforts in the cooperation with north China’s Shanxi province in recent years for deepened energy cooperation through asset swaps and equity cooperation, injecting surging impetus into the high-quality economic development of the two provinces.
Shanxi Sujin Shuozhou Coal Gangue Power Generation Co., Ltd. is one of three power plants operated by Jiangsu Guoxin Group in Shanxi.
Installed with the largest single-unit capacity circulating fluidized bed boiler generator set in the world, the power plant uses the low-calorific value coal of the local coal mine to generate electricity, realizing the transformation of solid waste into treasure.
Construction of this power plant was suspended by the central government in 2017 due to the overcapacity of thermal power in Shanxi Province.
In 2018, Jiangsu and Shanxi started to strengthen in-depth energy cooperation. Since then, Jiangsu provided assistance and support in terms of personnel, capital, technology and made every effort to promote project approval and construction so that the project was put into operation in September 2020.
The operation of the power plant has greatly reduced the cost of trans-provincial transportation of fuel, and can also consume 5.1 million tons of low-calorific-value coal that was originally treated as waste in the local area each year.
At present, this power plant can send 7 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to Jiangsu every year, and the heat generated in the course of power generation can also provide 7 million square meters of winter heating load for the local area, so that the two places can share the fruits of green development.

Under the cooperation of the two provinces, Jiangsu Shanxi Energy Co., Ltd. and its three power plants began to transmit power to Jiangsu on January 25 this year, becoming the largest power energy base outside Jiangsu.
The three power plants in Shanxi can deliver more than 20 billion kWh of electricity to Jiangsu each year, reducing the raw coal consumption in Jiangsu by 12 million tons.
Since November 2020, affected by factors such as a sharp drop in temperature and economic recovery, Jiangsu has become the province with the highest winter electricity load in the country.
Electricity from Shanxi sends 55 million kilowatt-hours of electricity to Jiangsu every day, accounting for nearly 30% of the total electricity imported from outside the province.
