The wisteria grown in the Zhongwang Mansion (忠王府) in Suzhou Museum is the best known one in Suzhou.Since it was planted by Wen Zhengming (文徵明, a celebrated painter, calligrapher, and poet during the Ming dynasty), this very wisteria is also called Wen Teng, which means Wen’s wisteria. Wen Teng, Guanyun Peak and the four ancient pines in Guangfu Town (named Qing, Qi, Gu and Guai) are jointly renowned as the “three sceneries unique to Suzhou”.

The Humble Administrator’s Garden (拙政园)

The Humble Administrator’s Garden, as the top of Suzhou’s four famous classical gardens, is also a good place to enjoy the beauty of wisteria flowers. Grown along the curved bridge that stretches from the Stay-and-Listen Pavilion (留听阁) and Thirty-six Mandarin Ducks Hall (卅六鸳鸯馆), the ancient wisteria is brimming with vitality despite its age.

The Lion Grove Garden (狮子林)

The wisteria flowers that add flavor to the Lion Grove Garden are 130-plus years old. They are still thriving on the pergola which was put up when the Pei family built the garden. The Pei family here refers to the family of I. M. Pei who designed the Suzhou Museum.

The Lingering Garden (留园)

There are two places covered with wisteria flowers in the Lingering Garden: one is the curved bridge in the middle of the park, and the other is the corridor in the pot plant garden. The ears of wisteria flowers hang down from the opening of the pergola and sway gently in the breeze.
