In the meantime, mass inoculation of the COVID-19 vaccine has also got underway in Yangzhou, Zhenjiang and Huai’an. 145 inoculation venues have been set up in Huai’an.
People older than 18 and those above 60 in good health are included in the vaccination on an appointment basis.
A total of 74.96 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been administered by midnight of March 20. The country will gradually increase the scale of its mass COVID-19 vaccinations in a safe, orderly manner. The cost of COVID-19 vaccination, including both vaccines' expenses and inoculation fees, will be covered by medical insurance fund and government fiscal, rather than individuals, the Chinese government said in January.
The free vaccination will be carried out based on the risks of infection of different groups, and participation will be voluntary.
Officials noted that the country’s annual production can fully meet the inoculation needs of the entire country.
China will gradually promote vaccination across the country and expand the inoculation coverage of the population, including for seniors and minors. Some regions in China, such as Beijing and Hefei in East China's Anhui Province, have already started to vaccinate people over 60 years of age who are in good physical condition.
Chinese authorities have reportedly laid out plans to ramp up efforts to vaccinate 560 million people, or 40 percent of China's population, by the end of June, and another 330 million people by the end of the year, covering 64 percent of the total population.
