Monday marks the 29th annual session of World Water Day and the 34th annual session of China Water Awareness Day. The theme of this year's event is "in-depth implementation of the new development concept and promoting the intensive and safe use of water resources". At present, Jiangsu is vigorously promoting water conservation and emission reduction to protect water resources.
Zhenjiang Jindong Paper Co., Ltd. has invested more than 10 million yuan to technically transform more than ten water-saving projects, reducing water consumption by 80% from a year ago and measuring up with international advanced level.
During the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, Jiangsu’s water consumption per 10 thousand yuan of GDP and water consumption per 10 thousand yuan of industrial added value decreased by 28.3% and 31.5% respectively compared with 2015.
Jiangsu has won honorary titles each year and ranked first in the country for 4 consecutive years since the "13th Five-Year Plan" in the nationwide appraisal and assessment since 2013.
Theme events are held in various parts of Jiangsu to encourage the public to take care of water resources.
Jiangsu Provincial Department of Water Resources and Nanjing Municipal Water Affairs Bureau awarded the 2nd Jiangsu Top Ten Water Resources Protection Guardians Award.
Wujiang District in Suzhou of Jiangsu, Qingpu District of Shanghai, and Jiashan County in Jiaxing city of Zhejiang have signed a list of tasks for river management in 2021 in a bid to explore new measures and experiences for the comprehensive management of inter-provincial rivers and lakes.
World Water Day is observed every year on 22nd March around the world. The day is observed to fetch attention to the need of conserving safe drinking water as well as looking for solutions to provide safe drinking water to people around the world. According to current estimates, there are still about 783 million people around the world who do not have access to safe drinking water.
This international day was proposed in the UN convention of Rio De Janeiro in 1992. The day began to be observed in 1993 across UN nations and has only grown from strength to strength since then. In 2003, the United Nations formed the UN-Water organization to look after water issues around the world. The body is responsible for coming up with themes and messages for the day.
