As Jiangsu province’s first China Railway Express (CRE) special train for cross-border e-commerce whistled and departed from Suzhou New District March 18, the “Golden Corridor” that connects China with central and eastern European countries has started functioning normally.

The first special train is loaded with $793,300 dollars of goods, including clothes, furniture, decorations, etc. They belong to 4,468 different shipment orders and weigh 73.5 tons in total.

After such procedures as customs clearance, binding and packing, the goods will be transferred to Alataw Pass, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and then delivered to Germany, France, Czech and other major European countries.

Suzhou has been supporting the development of cross-border e-commerce for long. This business form is characterized by small yet large number of packages, which suits the CRE transportation mode very well.

As a kind of segmented transport in international railway combined transportation, CRE doesn’t involve personnel quarantine and is thus good for reducing the risk of epidemic spread. It has now become a green corridor between Europe and Asia.

Since the first CRE train departed from Suzhou eight years ago, Suzhou has seen a considerable increase in both cargo volume and service frequency. CRE Suzhou transported 230,100tons of goods, worth $1.353 billiondollars, on 361train shifts in 2020.

In the future, the CRE special train will go into regular operation to better serve the cross-border e-commerce.
