As the project on improving water quality in the surrounding areas of Canglang Pavilion (or Surging Wave Pavilion, 沧浪亭) has come to an end recently, the pavilion has become more attractive.

Canglang Pavilion is the oldest garden in Suzhou and also an important part of Suzhou Classical Gardens -- the UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has been under Jiangsu provincial-level protection since 1983 and later under national-level protection by the State Council (sixth batch) since 2006.

With the lapse of time, the eutrophication in the water near the pavilion becomes serious. In this connection, a project aimed to improve the quality of water near Canglang Pavilion kicked off in October, 2020.

The project has regulated a 400-meter-long river course and 6600 square meters of water area, and improved the quality of over 9,900 cubic meters of water. Through improvement on water quality and long-term management, the water has become crystal clear and the pavilion more beautiful.

▲Old waterfalls have been repaired and six new spring-gushing points added

▲The ecological riverbed has been installed

The water near the pavilion now meets China’s Level-3 water-quality requirement after nearly half a year’s efforts and some water meets Level-1.

▲The landscape lights boost up the ambience. “Enjoy sceneries in the daytime and lights at night.”

The landscape lights have come into use, these warm orange-yellow lights adding a little modern air to the time-honored Canglang Pavilion at nightfall.
