East China’s Jiangsu province achieved a new leap in educational modernization during the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" period.Last year, Jiangsu ranked first in the country in terms of comprehensive strength in education modernization with a score of 87.8.
In 2020, the province invested 1.5 trillion yuan in education, ranking second in the country. 15 universities were ranked among the country’s double first-class initiative and the number of scientific and technological awards won by colleges and universities ranks first in the country.
In the past five years, Jiangsu renovated or built approximately 2,500 kindergartens with gross pre-school enrollment rate standing at more than 98% and more than 85% of kindergartens in the province are of inclusive education.
The resource supply capacity of high schools has been significantly enhanced, and the enrollment of 110 thousand students has been expanded for three consecutive years to provide more children with opportunities to enter high schools.
In August 2020, 6,171 government-run schools and 592 private schools in the province enrolled students and offered free admission under the same conditions.

Standing at a new starting point, Jiangsu will speed up the construction of a high-quality education system and promote the construction of a modern education province with high standards.
In the next five years, Jiangsu will improve the mechanism for the balanced allocation of basic public education resources, gradually narrow the gap between regions, urban and rural areas, and schools, give full play to the role of innovation sources, wisdom tanks and think tanks, and boost closer links between education and regional economic and social development.
