Following the resurgence of sporadic COVID-19 cases, many places across China have encouraged migrant workers to stay put to celebrate the Spring Festival. Taiwanese businesspersons in Jiangsu have decided to follow suit.
Qian Zhenhan, a Taiwanese businessman, established a cross-strait youth entrepreneurship incubation base in Nanjing eight years ago. The base has incubated more than 30 provincial and municipal well-known brand enterprises.
For health concerns, he has decided to stay put for the spring festival holiday rather than traveling back to Taiwan for family reunion.
His younger sister in Nanjing and his son, who is attending a college in Changzhou, will join him in the Spring Festival celebration in Jiangsu.
Qian has been video-chatting with his parents, wife and two daughters who are in Taipei.

"This is the first time I don’t go home for the Chinese New Year. I miss my daughters. The elder one is 20 years old and the younger is only 5 years old. I hope they can come to Nanjing sometime later," said Qian Zhenhan, General Manager of Nanjing Inno Light Spot Creative Dream Base.
Qian Zhenhan said that on New Year's Eve, he would have a New Year's Eve dinner at home with his sister and his son, and invite some Taiwanese friends to stay late into the night for the New Year celebration and then video-chat with family members in Taipei.

"I will spend the Chinese New Year with my brother and my nephew in Nanjing. I can’t go back to be with my mom and dad. I am a little bit sad to be frank. But it’s good to experience different ways of celebrating Chinese New Year here in Nanjing," said Qian Yinyu, Qian Zhenhan’s sister.

"I participate in a street dance club at school, so I usually practice dance at home. Because I belong to the school’s football team, I also practice ball when I’m available,"said Qian Zhenhan’s son.
Qian Zhenhan is not alone when it comes to staying put for the Chinese New Year celebration.
36 Taiwanese students at Nanjing Medical University were given a spring festival package that includes free WIFI access card and anti-epidemic provisions.
None of the 1100 Taiwanese students in Jiangsu will return to Taiwan for the holiday for health concerns.
Taiwanese-funded enterprises in Suzhou have distributed red envelopes or hongbao to their employees to encourage them to celebrate the Chinese New Year locally rather than traveling in big gatherings.
