The Chinese government has started to dole out Spring Festival packages to the overseas Chinese as the country is advising less travel amid the COVID-19 pandemic for safety concerns.

Chinese embassies and consulates in foreign countries have started to deliver spring festival packages to overseas Chinese and Chinese students studying abroad, said Cui Ai’min, director-general of the Foreign Ministry’s department of consular affairs.

300 thousand Spring Festival packages have been distributed to the respective recipients in 91 countries, he said.

The package contains Spring Festival couplets, new year greeting cards, epidemic prevention equipment and medicine.

"The small 'Spring Festival package', carries the care and concern of the people of the motherland, and it is also a special 'New Year' goods package. I sincerely wish everyone good health and peace in the Year of the Ox," said Cui Ai’min, Director-general of the Foreign Ministry’s Department of Consular Affairs.

Cui Ai’min said that vaccines are a powerful weapon to prevent, control and defeat the epidemic. At present, the Chinese vaccine has been approved for use in some countries, among which the UAE, Serbia and other countries have included local Chinese citizens in the plan to get vaccinated with Chinese vaccines.
