Taxi riders in Nanjing will be asked to show health code when taking a taxi. They will be asked to scan the mini program pasted inside the taxi before boarding to confirm they have not been to areas of medium and high risks of local transmission of COVID-19.

Taxi companies have summoned their drivers to past the mini program inside the cars so that passengers can scan the code to facilitate their movement. In case there is a feedback from the health authorities, the taxi companies will immediately start to trace the riders.

The mini program will be pasted to nearly 8000 taxis before January 24.

In the meantime, taxi riders will also be asked to wear masks on their way.

Drivers can refuse to take the passengers who fail to obey the regulations.

Nanjing has reported no locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases since March last year.

The Chinese mainland on Jan 18 reported 118 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 106 locally transmitted cases and 12 arriving from outside the mainland, the National Health Commission said on Jan 19.

Of the locally transmitted cases, 43 were reported in Jilin, 35 in Hebei, 27 in Heilongjiang, and one in Beijing, the commission said in its daily report.

No new suspected cases or deaths related to the disease were reported on Jan 18, said the commission.

By the end of Jan 18, the mainland had reported 4,530 imported COVID-19 cases. Among them, 4,256 had been discharged from hospitals following recovery, and 274 remained hospitalized. No deaths had been reported among the imported cases.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland reached 88,454 by Jan 18, including 1,387 patients still receiving treatment, 61 of whom were in severe condition.

A total of 82,432 patients had been discharged from hospitals following recovery on the mainland, and 4,635 had died of the disease, according to the commission.

There were two suspected COVID-19 cases on the mainland as of Jan 18, and 35,325 close contacts remained under medical observation.
