East China’s Jiangsu Province has unveiled for the first time the list of 365 traditional buildings complexes across the province. JSBC has more.
The traditional building complex on the three halls of Yangliu Village in Nanjing, an ancient building that has been placed under the national protection, was included in the provincial list of traditional building complexes.
Each group of independent houses is a deep courtyard with high walls through the hall, including three halls, namely the Lihe Hall, the Sicheng Hall and the Shude Hall, hence the name Santangshang.
The Santangshang building complex has a long history. It was reputedly built by Zhu Houshan, a great merchant of Jinling in the Qing Dynasty, for his three sons.
There are more than 140 houses in this traditional building complex with its layout and quality remain intact, coupled with beautiful wood carvings, brick carvings and stone carvings.
The architectural complex combines the characteristics of Jiangnan garden architecture and Huizhou architecture, thereby of high value.
The consultation hall complex of Shazhang Village in Liyang City is an ancient village formed by the migration and reproduction of minority officials. It has a history of more than 700 years. In addition to traditional residential buildings, it also retains various forms of intangible cultural heritage such as temple fairs.
The traditional building complex of Tieqin Tongjian Building in Guli Town, Changshu is one of the four largest private book collection buildings in the Qing Dynasty. The owner Qu family has collected books for several generations, which lasted for more than two hundred years and left a rich cultural heritage for future generations.
The 365 traditional building complexes are each composed of 3 or more traditional buildings that are relatively concentrated in space, making them of historical, cultural and artistic value in terms of architectural style, structural style, and construction techniques.
