East China’s Jiangsu province held a meeting on Monday to study General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech at the central government’s annual conference on agriculture and rural affairs. Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, put forth specific arrangements for the implementation of Xi Jinping’s important speech across the province.
Lou Qinjian pointed out that General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech comprehensively summarized the historical achievements and changes in China’s agricultural and rural development since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China from the perspective of the overall situation and strategy, profoundly answered a series of directional, fundamental, and overall major questions, and systematically deployed the comprehensive promotion of rural revitalization and the acceleration of agricultural and rural modernization.
He said the General Secretary’s important speech has profound thoughts and rich connotations, which has drawn a magnificent blueprint for the new journey of the work related to agriculture, rural areas and farmers and provided fundamental follow-up.
We must conscientiously study and understand the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech from the political height of strengthening the four consciousnesses and the four self-confidences, safeguarding the authority of the CPC Central Committee and getting united around the centralized and unified leadership the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core, strengthen the understanding of the importance of promoting agricultural and rural work, closely follow the new tasks and requirements of the new development stage, and accelerate the pace of agricultural and rural modernization, said the CPC provincial chief.
He stressed the importance of promoting the work related to agriculture, rural affairs and farmers by building a safe development system, effectively preventing and resolving agricultural risks, and ensuring independent grain supply.
Lou Qinjian pointed out that measures must be taken to implement the central government's deployment of rural work and solidly promote the modernization of Jiangsu's agricultural and rural areas.
Lou Qinjian said since the beginning of this year, Jiangsu has overcome the impact of the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic and severe floods, raised grain production to a new high, continued to increase farmers’ income, and promoted rural social vitality so that agricultural and rural development has become a prominent highlight of economic and social development.
He called for the province to act in accordance with the central government’s arrangement for the work relate to agriculture, rural affairs and farmers by promoting food crop production strategy based on farmland management and technological application, adjusting the agricultural industry structures, and effectively improve the quality of agricultural products and agricultural benefits.
The CPC provincial chief asked the province to take targeted measures to continuously improve the farmers’ housing condition, promote the co-construction and sharing of urban and rural infrastructure, improve modern rural and new-type community governance systems, narrow the gap between urban and rural areas, accelerate the overall development of farmers, promote the consolidation of the effect of poverty alleviation and the effective connection of rural revitalization, and vigorously promote shared prosperity.
Lou Qinjian demanded further efforts to pay more attention to the revitalization of rural culture, cultivate new types of professional farmers, and improve the scientific and cultural quality and civilized quality of the farmers.

At the two-day annual central rural work conference which closed in Beijing on Dec 29, General Secretary Xi Jinping stressed that solving issues related to agriculture, rural areas and farmers is the top priority for the Communist Party of China.
