About a dozen Chinese and foreign guests had an interesting experience with bianzhong at Suzhou ICH Shop last Saturday afternoon (December 26).
Jin Lei (金磊), representative inheritor of the Making Technique of Suzhou Traditional Chinese Music Instrument in Gusu District, introduced the exhibits at Suzhou ICH Shop first so that the guests could get a general idea of the traditional Chinese musical instruments and bronze ritual objects.
After that, Jin elaborated on the history and culture of Chinese bronze musical instruments; all the participants were very attentive and some of them took out mobile phones to take pictures of the items that interested them.
Then came the long-awaited part of the event -- playing bianzhong. Xu Yang and his family were the first experiencers; after trying several scales on the instrument, Xu and his son succeeded in playing a complete Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.
“iSuzhou’s events are very good; they can bridge the gap between the young generation and the traditional culture. I will bring my kid to more events like this in the future.” said Xu Yang.
“I used to learn singing and I’m very interested in music. Today’s event is very enjoyable and I’ve learned a lot.” said Dusha from Serbia, who has lived in Suzhou for 13 years.
More than a thousand netizens watched the live streamed event via Douyin platform and felt the charm of imitation antique bianzhong together.
