How to pick out ripe tangerines
The color of ripe tangerines is bright orange or dark yellow; there are small grey circles at the bottom, and the top (the end with the stem) sags a little bit. Avoid choosing the tangerines in green or greenish yellow and those with small holes on the outer skin.
How to preserve tangerines
Dissolve a small amount of baking soda in water, soak the tangerines in the water and air-dry them; the tangerines thus treated can be well preserved for one to three months in fresh-keeping bags. It’s not advisable to keep the tangerines in the fridge.
You don’t need to take any tools with you if you go fruit-picking in the orchards on Xishan Island. The fruit farmers there have got everything prepared for you. Please do not bring kindling materials to the mountain, snap the branches or climb the trees.
