The Nanjinger - Holiday Transport Update; Nanjing Metro Lines to Run until 24-00

With the upcoming National Day and Mid Autumn Festival combined, operational hours of the Nanjing Metro are to be be extended, while some bus routes will be adjusted, chief among which are those around the Nanjing Massacre Memorial.

As has become customary the past few years during the two major holiday periods, the Nanjing Metro shall operate extended hours until midnight to facilitate more convenient links for the millions who shall be travelling.

This year, metro lines 1, 2, 3 and 4 have been chosen as those which will run trains until 24:00, beginning 30 September. As the four primary north-south and east-west metro links in Nanjing, lines 1 and 3 also serve both Nanjing’s passenger railway stations, making the Metro’s extension to operational hours a big help to those taking trains out of Nanjing late in the evening.

In addition, the entire Nanjing Metro network shall operate at maximum capacity from 1 to 8 October, while additional trains may also be put into operation at any time according to passenger flow, reports Nanjing Daily.

Elsewhere, one of Nanjing’s most visited tourist spots is the Nanjing Massacre Memorial. Given that entrance is free and the large number of expected visitors during the upcoming holiday, authorities shall close off roads around the Memorial to vehicular traffic between 8:30 and 16:30 from 1 to 8 October.

As such, during these times, west-bound buses numbers 7, 37, 61, 63 and 166 will temporarily not stop at the Jiangdong Men Memorial Hall stop (江东门纪念馆-公交车站), i.e. the stop directly outside the entrance to the Memorial on Shuixi Men Da Jie.

For those headed to catch a train from Nanjing South Railway Station, authorities remind travelers that heavy congestion is expected at the station’s North Plaza entrance, and for those able to do so, entering the station at the South Plaza is recommended.

During the double holiday, traffic police shall also be strictly implementing the so-called “electric fence” policy around Nanjing South that was launched last year on 1 August. Therein, drivers are strictly prohibited from boarding and alighting passengers on all roads encompassed by the “fence”, that comprises Liuchao Lu, Yulan Lu, Jiangnan Lu and Boai Jie.

Violators shall receive a ¥100 Fixed Penalty and 3 points on their driving license. Those returning from their holiday to Nanjing South would do well to not attempt booking a ride-hailing service, and to instead head for the Metro.
