Chen Zhu, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of China's 13th National People's Congress, went on an inspection tour in Jiangsu on innovation and high-quality development of the pharmaceutical industry from September 21 to 24. Chen is also chairman of the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party, one of the non-communist parties in China. Lou Qinjian, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People’s Congress, met with the inspection team.
Lou Qinjian said that the prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic has made us more deeply aware of the importance of accelerating the innovative development of the pharmaceutical industry and improving the level of medical institutions.
He hoped that the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party will continue to care about and support the development of Jiangsu's pharmaceutical industry and health care, help build more development platforms, play a greater role in the high-quality development of country’s health care industry, and better protect people's lives and health.
The inspection team investigated a number of key pharmaceutical and medical device companies in Nanjing, Wuxi, and Suzhou and pharmaceutical industry parks such as Nanjing Life Science and Technology Town and Biomedicine Valley.
It also investigated the drug clinical research project of the Provincial People's Hospital, and was briefed on the situations by holding symposiums attended by pharmaceutical industry parks and some key pharmaceutical companies.
Chen Zhu pointed out that in the process of drafting the "14th Five-Year Plan", it is necessary to better summarize the scientific and technological innovation experience formed in the prevention, control and treatment of the COVID-19 epidemic, and clarify the key position of biomedicine and high-performance medical devices as strategic emerging industries and the development direction of key areas of new infrastructure investment.
Measures should be taken to strive to more actively integrate into the global innovation network, build a world-class pharmaceutical emerging industry cluster, focus on key areas and core technologies, and effectively solve the bottleneck problems in the scientific and technological development of biomedicine and medical equipment, he said.
The Vice NPC chairman called for more efforts to focus on optimizing the business environment, further improve the pharmaceutical industry chain and supply chain, strengthen basic research in medicine and pharmacy, improve health policy supply and system innovation, and promote the reform on the review and approval of medical products and device, medical insurance negotiation access, and payment management.
Vice Governor Chen Xingying briefed the inspection team on the development of Jiangsu's biomedical industry and ideas for promoting the innovative development, coordinated development and high-quality development of the province’s biomedical industry during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period.
