The world's largest caisson foundation-Changzhou Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge main pier caisson completed the last high-lift installation on Saturday, laying the foundation for the safe and accurate sinking of the caisson.
A large floating crane was seen slowly hoisting a half-arc behemoth weighing 800 tons from the transport ship.
Under the combined action of the hoist and the tug, the floating crane was accurately hoisted to the last high section of the steel caisson, completing the last hoisting construction of the steel caisson.
Being the foundation of the main tower of the Changzhou-Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge, the steel caisson is currently the largest of its kind in the world with an area equivalent to 13 standard basketball courts.
With the height of the steel caisson reaching 64 meters, the steel caisson will be sunk another 23 meters to a predetermined position more than 40 meters below the Yangtze River bed.
Facing the complicated underwater geological environment, the construction staff made full use of information technology to establish a caisson monitoring platform, enabling the intelligent sensors to automatically collect the attitude, force, environment and video monitoring data of the caisson to realize real-time dynamic three-dimensional linkage and visual display, which effectively guarantees the construction safety and project quality during the sinking of the caisson.
