Suzhou’s first book house for foreign experts was unveiled at Suzhou International Technology Talent Park on August 11. Covering an area of 300 square meters, the book house boasts nearly 3,000 books in ten languages including Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, Russian, etc. with extensive coverage of politics, economy, culture, diplomacy and many other topics.
During the opening ceremony, ten foreign expert representatives were given books. “I like Suzhou very much, especially the Pingjiang Road in old town district, where there are many traditional buildings. I didn’t read books about China that much, but I have put time to read some now.”, said Florian, a French teacher in Suzhou Foreign Language School.
Approved by State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, Suzhou International Technology Talent Park is the core of “Suzhou International Human Resources Service Park” and has integrated 1,300 foreign talents so far. The book house for foreign experts will serve as a significant service window and carrier for foreign experts to know more about China, and better communicate China’s story to the world.

Suzhou has been selected as one of the “Amazing China — The Most Attractive Chinese Cities for Expats” for eight consecutive years. A total of 7,221 employing units in Suzhou municipality have registered in the Service System for Foreigners Working in China by June 30, 2020.
There are 11,892 foreigners working in Suzhou with valid work permits, accounting for 47.42% of the province’s total; 4,696 out of them are foreign high-end talents, taking up 57.71% of the province’s total. Suzhou ranks fifth among domestic major and medium-sized cities in order of foreign talents numbers.
Suzhou is now planning to establish its second “Book House for Foreign Experts” at Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University and some more book houses at enterprises, public institutions and communities in the future.
