To communicate Suzhou culture and tell the city’s stories from an original and international perspective, iSuzhou is currently working on a series of short videos titled "I’m in Suzhou" specifically for foreigners.

The theme of the video this time is “exploring Shuangta Market with RMB50 yuan”. Shuangta Market has gained great popularity especially among the young generation since its refurbishment at the end of 2019. Benji is a big fan of traditional Chinese culture and also Suzhou-style foods. Let’s follow Benji and figure out why this market is so popular!

What did Benji eat?

1 Haitang Cake

Haitang cake is said to be shaped like a Haitang flower. It’s  made of flour, filled with red bean paste and sugar, and covered by sunflower seeds, Chinese dates, honglüsi and sesame. It tastes sweet, very delicious.

2  Flower Tea

Suzhou locals are fond of flower tea, particularly in summer. A variety of flower tea available here e.g. chrysanthemum tea, jasmine tea, lotus-heart tea, etc. They are all good for cooling down in the summer heat and thus considered a perfect match for summertime.

3  Yangchun Noodles (plain noodles in a simple sauce)

Yangchun Noodles is one of the noodles in soup. It looks very simple: noodles in plain soup with some minced scallions on top. But each noodle eatery have their own secret recipe to make the soup more tasty and unique.

Tips:

Shuangta market is just a short walk from Xiangmen Station of SRT Line 1 in a beautiful part of Suzhou, it near to the beautiful old street of Pingjiang Road and close to Soochow University.
