The city of Wuxi in East China’s Jiangsu province has taken advantage of the opportunities for the development of digital economy to accelerate the creation of a national digital economy model city.
Located in the Binhu District of Wuxi City, the closed test area of the National Intelligent Transportation Comprehensive Test Base will open to the public in the second half of this year after two years of construction. This also means that the development of Wuxi's connected vehicle industry is about to enter the fast lane.
The National Intelligent Transportation Comprehensive Test Base is the only "unmanned vehicle" test base in China that takes the safety of vehicle operation as the starting point.
Self-driving car will undergo multiple assessments such as signal recognition, risk avoidance, and safety performance to pass before they hit the road.
In the quasi-open area, the base has carried out 35 test services, and completed the test for driverless cars of more than 10 brands such as SAIC, Audi and Suzhou Higer.
Seizing the opportunities brought about by the country’s swift towards new infrastructures, Wuxi will accelerate the development of the new generation of information technology industry spearheaded by the Internet of Things and industrial transformation and upgrading in the direction of intelligent manufacturing so as to promote the comprehensive integration of digital industrialization and industrial digitization and the deep integration of digital economy and real economy.
In the 5G intelligent production workshop of Jabil Circuit in Wuxi High-tech Zone, the AGV smart car was seen delivering materials to the designated station by following the instructions.
On the production line, the AVI vision inspection robot is performing optical inspection on the product by comparing it with the standard part data in the online database so as to automatically screen out defective products.
The production status of each production line can be sent back to the factory's control center in real time with the response speed reaching the millisecond level.
Today, the digital economy has found its way into all areas of production and life. The Wuxi city service APP "Lingxi" was officially launched, providing in the first phase more than 170 service items including transportation, medical health, and social security.
Since the beginning of this year, Wuxi has issued a three-year action plan for the development of digital economy, formulated the first 5G industry development plan in prefecture-level cities across the country, and created multiple digital industrial parks such as Wuxi Data Lake.
In the first quarter of this year, Wuxi recorded a revenue growth of 10.2% in its Internet of Things industry with the half-year growth expected to hit 11% year-on-year.
From January to May, the city’s sales of big data and cloud computing industries increased by 14.38% year-on-year.
According to development goals, by 2022, Wuxi is expected to register 650 billion yuan in the revenue of the core industry of its digital economy, with an annual growth rate of not less than 8% on the average.
