East China’s Jiangsu province has spared no efforts to step up renovation of old residential communities and the elderly care services in the urban areas for the improvement of people’s well-being.
The community service center for the elderly has benefited from the "home + community + institution" chain-type elderly care service system launched by regional governments across Jiangsu.
This system not only meets the needs of the elderly with the provision of elderly care services, but also provides door-to-door services for the elderly and disabled elderly who have limited mobility and financial difficulties.
When the elderly or their family members make a phone call or place an online order via a mobile phone, this smart elderly care platform in Nantong will push orders for services such as meal delivery, haircuts or rehabilitation to the nearest elderly care institution.
The cost of these professional service orders is paid by the government to purchase subsidies while the elderly pay 100-300 yuan per month.
Known as the town of longevity, Nantong reports 2.34 million people over 60 years with an aging rate of 30.84%, stimulating a strong demand for elderly care services.
In the meantime, Nantong has accelerated the renovation of old residential communities in the urban areas.
Starting in 2018, authorities in Nantong have earmarked 194 million yuan to renovate 25 old residential communities by giving a face-lift to the facades, rain and sewage diversion, parking space renovation and green landscape improvement.
Property management is optimized while community health service centers and facilities for elders and disabled persons have been installed.
The renovation of old residential communities in the urban areas is a matter of great interest to the people, to the high quality development and to the high quality life.
In 2020, Nantong will earmark 80% of the general budget for livelihood expenditure.
All the impoverished residents with an annual basic allowance of less than 7000 yuan have been lifted out of poverty. The monthly subsistence allowance has been raised to 650 yuan per person so that no one is left behind on the road to a well-off society.
