The 13th Provincial People’s Congress of Jiangsu, the province’s top legislature, kicked off its 17th meeting Tuesday in Nanjing. Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and chairman of the Provincial People’s Congress, presided over the meeting. Wu Zhenglong, governor of Jiangsu, delivered a report on the province’s social and economic operation as well as the provincial government’s recent work performance.
Noting that this year marks the final year for the construction of a well-off society in an all-round way and the 13th five-year plan, Wu Zhenglong said in the report that the sudden onset of the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in serious challenges and impacts for various work.
The Governor remarked that following the Xi Jinping Thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, Jiangsu has made remarkable progress in social and economic development as well as the regular prevention and control of the pandemic in accordance with General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions and the leadership of the CPC Central Committee, the State Council and the Provincial Party Committee.
Wu said that Jiangsu has taken targeted measures to cope with the external uncertainties under the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and promoted the resumption of work and production for stability on the six fronts and security in the six areas.
While speaking highly of the province’s achievements in the first half of the year, Wu Zhenglong stressed the importance of coming to grips with ten major tasks in the second half of the year.
He asked the legislative bodies at all levels in the province to strengthen the Party’s leadership in all aspects of work from the political height of strengthening the four consciousnesses and the four self-confidences, safeguarding the authority of the CPC Central Committee and getting united around the centralized and unified leadership the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core.
