As the sole railway station in Suzhou Industrial Park, SIP Railway Station (aka. Suzhou Yuanqu Railway Station) is an important transfer station that brings passengers to SIP via railway. However, since only a small number of trains stopped at SIP Railway Station, it could hardly meet the increasing need for traveling nowadays.
To solve this problem, SIP Planning and Construction Committee coordinated proactively with the railway authorities in an effort to have more trains stop at SIP. According to the train schedule that took effect on July 1, 2020, SIP Railway Station now has three more trains running from SIP to Nanjing and one more train running at 8:09pm to Shanghai Hongqiao stop at it. Currently, a total of 39 up and down trains stop at SIP Railway Station every day.
Since it was put into operation in 2010, SIP Railway Station has brought great convenience to the travelers in SIP and neighboring areas, and made significant contributions to the economic development and public service of SIP and Suzhou.
As per big data analysis, Suzhou Industrial Park had an average of nearly 39,000 railway passengers (both inbound and outbound) on a daily basis in 2019. Most of the passengers, however, had to take trains at the city’s other stations, 66% of them at Suzhou Railway Station and 17% at Suzhou North Railway Station, because only 17% of the trains stopped at SIP Railway Station.
As SIP is closely connected with the center cities along the Shanghai-Nanjing Railway (沪宁铁路) such as Shanghai (Hongqiao) and Nanjing, there is strong demand for business travel by railway in SIP.
Along with the construction of Suzhou Free Trade Zone (SFTZ) and the implementation of the nation’s Yangtze River Delta Integration Strategy, SIP’s connection with its neighbors will become closer and closer, and the railway passenger flow, business travelers in particular, will continue to grow remarkably.
Next, SIP Planning and Construction Committee will follow up on its coordination efforts to add more trains to the timetable of SIP Railway Station, especially the ones running to and from Shanghai Railway Station and Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station, to better serve the passengers and promote the rapid growth of SFTZ.
