The first "Discover Jiangsu" in 2020, organized by the Information Office of Jiangsu Provincial People's Government and hosted by the Information Office of Nanjing Municipal People's Government, was held on Friday in Nanjing.
Around 20 expats from 11 countries including Russia, Germany, and Pakistan were invited to explore Nanjing's passion for literature.
7月3日,由江苏省政府新闻办公室主办、南京市人民政府新闻办公室承办的2020年首场“发现江苏”活动在南京举行。本次活动以“从天下文枢到文学之都——一座城市对文学的热情”为主题,邀请来自俄罗斯、德国、巴基斯坦等11个国家的外籍文学爱好者走进“世界文学之都”南京,寻访南京文学印迹、碰撞当代“南京作家群”、刻画南京文学地图。

南京市作家协会原副主席、《南京城市史》的作者薛冰在主旨发言中从六朝时期在南京完成的多部经典名著入手,探究南京文学历史脉络的发展变迁以及文学与南京城市变化的关系。
“开放包容”是薛冰认为南京能够成为“世界文学之都”的重要原因。他告诉记者:“南京在文化史上,能够产生众多的文学名著。这跟南京开放的心态,能够接纳外来的思想,接纳外来的人和事有很大关系。”
In his keynote speech, Xue Bing, the former Vice President of Nanjing Writers Association and the author of The Urban History of Nanjing, began with the classic literature written in Nanjing in the Six Dynasties (222-589) and explored Nanjing's literary history and the relationship between literature and Nanjing's urban development.

南京大学法语系教授,世界名著《小王子》的译者黄荭则放眼南京同世界其他文学之都的国际交流,向现场中外嘉宾介绍了南京书展、世界读书日等系列活动和南京众多的阅读组织,讲述世界文学之都南京如何将创意和文化产业置于发展战略的核心,积极开展国际文学和文化艺术领域的合作。
“作为现在中国的一个‘文学重镇’,南京是站在面向世界的窗口上。”黄荭告诉记者。“‘发现江苏’是一个让世界发现中国、发现江苏的很好的活动。”
Huang Hong, a professor of Department of French, Nanjing University and the translator of Le Petit Prince, reviewed Nanjing's international exchanges with other "Cities of Literature". She introduced Nanjing's efforts in promoting literature, including the Nanjing Book Fair and the World Reading Day and talked about Nanjing's international cooperation in literature and art.
南京城市的烙印,在诗歌里有着诸多体现。活动现场,来自不同国家的文学爱好者朗诵了《长干行•其一》、《桨声灯影里的秦淮河》、《乌衣巷》、《江南春》,带领观众领略诗歌中的江南风情。来自也门的法瑞斯更是朗读了一首阿拉伯语诗歌,让观众感受不同语言的韵律美。

法瑞斯用中文告诉记者,他希望来自“一带一路”国家的留学生把中国文化学好,向自己国家介绍中国文化,同时给中国朋友介绍自己国家的文化,这样“一带一路”才是一个大家庭。
The image of Nanjing can be found in many poems. During the opening ceremony, poetry-lovers from different countries led the audience to appreciate the charm of Nanjing by reciting classic ancient and contemporary poems.
"In my opinion, the international students from BRI countries should learn Chinese culture and introduce Chinese culture to their countries," said Fares Alahmadi from Yemen. "At the same time, we should introduce our own culture to Chinese friends. In this way, BRI countries can be more integrated to become a big family."

自古以来,古琴以其高妙典雅的文化格调深得文人雅士欣赏。古琴文化学者、广陵琴派的传承人陶艺在活动现场带来了一把制作于宋代、用蚕丝为弦的古琴,名为“飞鸣吟”。伴随着这把千年古琴所弹奏的《良宵引》,一直练习中国书法的大卫书写了“发现江苏”四个字,送给江苏的朋友。他说:“‘发现江苏’既是活动的主题,也是我们五大洲朋友的心愿寄托。”

Tao Yi, the inheritor of Guangling Guqin School brought a Guqin that was made in the Song Dynasty with silk as the strings. He performed a piece of Guqin classic - Liang Xiao Yin (Tune for a Peaceful Night) with David from Russia writing Chinese characters "Discover Jiangsu".

为什么南京会成为世界文学之都?在随后的“相遇在文学之都南京”对话活动里,作家薛冰、黄荭与诗人黄梵、赵健以及外籍文学爱好者罗克从不同的角度探讨南京能够成为文学之都的独特气质。参与论坛的外籍观众也热情提问,就新媒体对文学的影响、诗歌在当代社会生存现状等问题同嘉宾交流。

曾参与江苏原创歌剧《拉贝日记》翻译工作的德国人罗克认为文学作品有着非常重要的历史记录功能。他告诉记者:“《拉贝日记》作为一部文学作品,现在被改编成歌剧等艺术作品,对当年发生的真相起到了更好的传播作用。我很荣幸能够参与到它的翻译工作中。”

外籍文学爱好者体验昆曲艺术
从天下文枢到文学之都,南京这座城市随处可以发现文学作品中的印记。活动当天,外籍文学爱好者还欣赏了昆曲折子戏《虎囊弹·山门》《牡丹亭·惊梦》,参观六朝博物馆、乌衣巷、科举博物馆,实地感受南京作为“文学之都”的魅力。
来自波兰的Bart对中国戏曲颇有研究。由江苏省昆剧院优秀演员表演的经典片段《牡丹亭·惊梦》让他陶醉其中。“这里面最有意思的部分就是真实与梦境的交织。你可能也不知道哪一幕是梦境,哪一幕是真实,这就是《牡丹亭》的美。”
The expats then watched Kunqu Operas and visited different parts of Nanjing, including the Oriental Metropolitan Museum, Wuyi or Black Robe Lane, and the Imperial Examination Museum of China.

"As we know the Kunqu Opera is the oldest and most classical opera of China," said Bart from Poland, who is deeply in love with Chinese operas. "In Mudanting or Peony Pavilion, you have this part when you dream and the exit of dream is reality. And some people may mix dream and reality. That's the beauty of Mudanting."

"Discover Jiangsu" is a major brand built by the Information Office of Jiangsu Provincial People's Government. Each year, the organizers will invite the foreigners living in Jiangsu to explore various sides of the province and introduce Jiangsu to the world.
