Kunqu Opera is one of the oldest traditional operas in China. Since it was listed as one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2001, Kunqu Opera has become better-known and watching, enjoying or learning it a new lifestyle and cultural fashion nowadays.
To spread the culture and artistry of Kunqu Opera, Suzhou Kunqu Opera Theatre of Jiangsu Province (江苏省苏州昆剧院) is planning to give training classes this summer to provide Kunqu Opera fans with opportunities to learn from professionals.

1. Opening of class: July 20, 2020.
Sign-up deadline: July 19, 2020.
2. Class location
Suzhou Kunqu Opera Theatre of Jiangsu Province (No.9 Jiaochangqiao Road, Gusu District, 姑苏区校场桥路9号)
3. Class time
Children’s class: 3pm to 4:30pm, Mon./Wed./Fri.
Adults’ class: 7pm to 8:30pm,Mon./Wed./Fri.
4. Class fees
Children’s foundation class (six and older): RMB1288 yuan/person;
Adults’ foundation class: RMB1288 yuan/person;
Adults’ advanced class: RMB1588 yuan/person.
There are a total of 15 sessions and each session lasts 1.5 hours. Every class is recruiting about 20 trainees and the class will start at a minimum of 10 sign-ups.
5. Class contents
Children’s foundation class: NieHai Ji – Shuang Xia Shan–Yu Tian Xian (《孽海记•双下山•玉天仙》), singing and performance;
Adults’ foundation class: Mu Dan Ting–You Yuan – Zao Luo Pao (《牡丹亭•游园•皂罗袍》), singing and performance;
Adults’ advanced class: Mu Dan Ting–Zhui Meng• Tui Tui Ling, Jia Qing Zi(《牡丹亭•寻梦•忒忒令、嘉庆子》), singing and performance;
All the trainees will take an examination in the last session. Those passing the examination will receive a certificate of completion and the top trainees will play roles in an end-of-class performance.
