The Wuxi Grand Theater in East China's Jiangsu province reopened Saturday after being closed for 128 days due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus, with more than 300 people invited to attend the event.

Four major performances involving pop music, classical music, folk music and drama brought people back to the time before the outbreak when the theater was open for their enjoyment.

The Sky Stage welcomed its first group of performers who received praise from the audience on opening day. The multifunctional hall also showcased its new appearance with help of the elevating stage, digital projection and a starry wall.

The conductor of a classical orchestra said that they have made full preparations for coming performances and can't wait to see audiences in person at the theater.

"It's like meeting an old friend again after a long separation, and I am looking forward to new performances and new stage effects as the theater made several changes during the closure," said a resident surnamed Lu.

According to a manager at the theatre, the Pearl Pagoda, a famous Wuxi Opera piece to be presented on June 20, will serve as the first performance after the reopening. In addition, teenagers will be welcome at special artistic shows during this summer holiday.

The theater also revealed that nearly 60 performances in various forms, most by domestic performing arts' groups, have been arranged for the second half of the year.

Medical workers who battled against the novel coronavirus in Central China's Hubei province can enjoy these performances for free, to honor their contributions to epidemic control.
