East China’s Jiangsu province is gearing up for flood control in the rainy season that has started since May 1st from the south of the province to the north.
The Limin Bridge Water Control Project, located at the intersection of the Grand Canal in Wuxi, is one of the city’s eight major hydraulic projects.
The pumping machines at the project have a capacity to drain 60 cubic meters of water per second.
The staff is busy with the overhaul of the No. 1 pump unit, replacing wearing parts, and comprehensively checking the potential safety hazards to ensure that the unit is always in a normal standby state.

Affected by the epidemic
the overhaul started late this year
and workers worked overtime
to shorten the construction period
It is expected to be repaired on May 10
to ensure the safe operation of the pump
and get ready for immediate use when necessary
The Changzhou City Flood Control and Drought Relief Material Reserve Center has repaired and maintained 240 sets of submersible pumps, float pumps, and mixed flow pumps.
The center has purchased new equipment such as high-power drainage vehicles, power supply vehicles, and wire cages to ensure the perfect performance of flood control equipment.
Mu Haining, Deputy Chief, Flood Control Materials Storage and Regulation, River and Lake Management Office, Changzhou
We have formulated a flood control duty system
and a 24-hour duty system
to ensure that in the event of an emergency
we can make instant response
by dispatching and transporting materials
needed for the flood relief
In order to prevent urban waterlogging caused by short-term heavy rainfall, all parts of Jiangsu have also stepped up dredging of urban drainage pipelines. Suqian started the renovation of 23 flood-prone areas in early April. At present, it has dredged 1,345 kilometers of the drainage pipe network, 3534 cubic meters of drainage pipes and manhole sludge, and renovated more than 60 sites that are prone to waterlogging.
Authorities in Nantong have introduced a new generation of digital high-definition pipeline inspection robots to replace manual downholes to check the status of pipelines with small diameters so as to improve inspection efficiency and ensure worker safety. The city plans to test 570 kilometers of rainwater pipelines by the end of May.

[voice over] Jiangsu deployed early to carry out pre-flood inspections by checking the flood control and drainage capacity of all water conservancy projects, the operation and management of non-engineering measures for flood control, and the preparation of various flood control plans.
To date, Jiangsu has stockpiled 163 tons of rocks, 40 million woven bags, 3.39 million square meters of geotextile fabrics and 9 thousand cubic meters of wood to meet the requirements for flood control in the rainy season.
