A danger warning zone, marked by an eye-catching red area painted on the road, has been set up at quite a few crossroads in a bid to better maintain traffic order and improve traffic safety. Drivers of both motorized and non-motorized vehicles should take special caution when they pass these zones.
When a large-sized vehicle makes a right turn, its right rear wheels follow a shorter path than its right front wheels, which is called “inner wheel difference”. The longer the vehicle, the greater the difference in the turning path. In some cases, when the large vehicles were turning right while the non-motorized vehicles (bicycles, electric bicycles, etc.) were going straight ahead, the riders couldn’t figure out the exact turning path of the right rear wheels and consequently fell victim to serious traffic accidents.
According to the city’s traffic police team, they have installed the danger zones based on the actual road situations after scientifically and accurately measuring and calculating the inner wheel difference and the turning path. Currently, the zone is being adopted in Gusu District, SIP and SND.
