East China’s Jiangsu province took a series of measures to boost tourism and address epidemic risks during the five-day Labor Day holiday when consumer demand that came to a halt due to the COVID-19 epidemic bounced back and the retail sales in the province totaled 4.97 billion yuan, up 2.3% from a year ago.
Short-distance trips were the mainstay of rural tourism during the holiday.
Scenic spots across the province were asked to implement a reservation system to receive visitors at staggered times while capping the daily number of visitors to no more than 30 percent of their maximum capacity during the holiday.
Scenic sites in Jiangning district of Nanjing received 287 thousand visitors during the five-day holiday, generating 19.96 million yuan of tourism revenue in total.

The Zhenjiang Museum unveiled an exhibition on the life and art of women in Jiangnan in the Qing Dynasty to explore the elegance and artistic beauty of ancient women.
In the meantime, consumer vouchers were issued during the holiday to spur consumption and unleash spending.
The Provincial Sports Bureau announced a plan during the holiday to issue 50 million yuan of sports voucher in the coming days. Xinbei District of Changzhou issued more than 70 thousand consumer vouchers with a total value of 4 million yuan during the holiday. Taizhou issued 50-million-yuan worth of tourism vouchers to its residents and tourists to spur the development of the tourism industry.
Night tours, dining, and shopping were the new highlights of spending during the Labor Day holiday.
Night fashion mart at Guanqian Street, cultural creation mart at Pingjiang Road and other night spending events filled the nightlife with vigor.
