Trains and flights from Wuhan have arrived in various destinations in Jiangsu province as Wuhan lifted outbound travel restrictions on Wednesday after almost 11 weeks of lockdown imposed to stem the COVID-19 outbreak.

A mother and her son were the most eye-catching in the flow of passengers.

They were traveling to Taizhou city via Wuxi.

She said her parents’ home is in Wuhan and she had never expected that her trip to Wuhan to see her parents was extended for more than two months due to the lockdown.

Anyway, she said she was lucky to be back home on the first day the lockdown was lifted as her son was right in time for the opening of the new semester.

At Suzhou North Railway Station, a woman surnamed Zhou was so agitated as to apply for a special permit to enter the platform so as to meet her daughter in the earliest possible time. she had never imagined that she would be separated from her daughter of 9 years old for 81 days when she sent her daughter back to Wuhan on January 16 for the Chinese New Year. the mother and daughter could only see each other through video phone during the period when Wuhan was under lockdown.

The first flight from Wuhan arrived at Nantong Airport on Wednesday.

After being put into lockdown for almost 11 weeks, Wuhan, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak in China, is finally reconnected with the rest of the world on Wednesday.

Though the city needs to stay vigilant to prevent resurgence, its hard-won preliminary victory is symbolic of China's nationwide anti-virus efforts and offers a glimpse of hope to the world, as almost half the global population is confined to some degree.
