Lou said the doctors and nurses from Jiangsu displayed their expertise and care in the fight against COVID-19 in Wuhan and the entire Hubei.

The medical teams from Jiangsu have become the role models for all the people in Jiangsu, he added.

On Tuesday, the CPC provincial chief also wrote a letter to all the doctors and nurses sent to aid Hubei in the fight against COVID-19 to express his sincere gratitude and pay tribute to the "angels in white" on the front line of the battle against the virus.

The people of Jiangsu will never forget the unforgettable moments during your 50-plus days in Wuhan and the entire Hubei when the doctors and patients stuck together to keep each other warm and fight the epidemic, he said.

Your presence not only reduced the burdens of local medical workers but, more importantly, brought confidence to disease-ridden Wuhan residents, Lou added.

He said the doctors and nurses from Jiangsu have lived up to the expectations of the Party and the people in Hubei and Jiangsu.

A leading group of China's novel coronavirus disease or COVID-19 response demanded on March 16 the orderly withdrawal of medical staff supporting the virus-hit Hubei Province in a sign that the epidemic has been brought under control in the country and its hardest hit region.

The first batch of 709 medical workers from Jiangsu returned to Nanjing on March 17.

The second batch of 350 doctors and nurses returned on March 19.

The third batch of 139 doctors and nurses returned to Jiangsu on March 29.

Jiangsu sent 2804 doctors and nurses to Hubei to help contain the epidemic, which is the country’s largest medical contingent sent to Hubei.

The doctors and nurses from Jiangsu were tasked with treating the confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in Wuhan and Huangshi, Hubei province.

China sent 346 medical teams and more than 42.6 thousand medical workers to help with the medical treatment in Hubei province, according to the National Health Commission.
