Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu provincial committee, required targeted measures to curb cross-border transmission of the novel coronavirus disease or COVID-19 so as to proactively promote work resumption and meet the goals for epidemic control and social and economic development. He made the remarks at a meeting of the standing members of the Provincial Party Committee held Thursday in Nanjing.

At present, the spread of the epidemic in China has been basically blocked, and positive progress has been made in the prevention and control of the epidemic in Jiangsu, but the province is facing increasing pressure to prevent imported cases from abroad, according to a statement released after the meeting.

All efforts must be made to prevent the epidemic from being imported from abroad, to ensure the full restoration of normal production and living order, and to strengthen the control of border ports, grass-roots communities, and hospitals, the statement said.

Measures must be taken to strengthen border inspections, improve data sharing, updates on VOVID-19 infection, and inspection on inbound travelers at border checkpoints so as to effectively identify high-risk passengers, and improve prevention and control accuracy, said the statement.

Imported COVID-19 cases in China are increasing as the epidemic rapidly spread across the world, leading to growing pressure in epidemic containment, the meeting noted, demanding strengthened international coordination and cooperation to improve epidemic prevention and control on international flights.

Hospitals are required to strengthen the medical treatment of the imported confirmed cases and make follow-up visits to the patients that have been discharged, according to the statement.

The meeting called for continuous efforts for community-based prevention and control and resolute actions to prevent the risk of virus outbreak rebounding, the statement said.

Every effort must be made to stabilize Jiangsu's position in the global supply chain, coordinate foreign trade, increase investment, and help more foreign trade companies unblock export channels, stabilize international markets, and expand domestic markets, according to the statement.

The province will strive to seize new infrastructure opportunities such as 5G, data centers, industrial Internet, promote the construction of major open innovation platforms, accelerate the construction of free trade zones in Nanjing, Suzhou and Lianyungang, and in key areas such as new materials, high-end equipment, information technology, and biomedicine create a number of iconic scientific and technological innovation platforms such as Such as National Technology Innovation Center, National Medical Center and National Regional Medical Center, the statement said.

Jiangsu will do everything possible to reduce the impact of the epidemic on the economy and livelihood, promote the development of the issues concerning people’s life, ensure the sustainable development of poverty alleviation, continue to improve farmers' housing in northern Jiangsu and maintain social stability, the statement said.
