East China’s Jiangsu Province has stepped up its efforts to guard against imported cases of novel coronavirus infection by tightening up screening and monitoring of inbound travelers at ports, airports and train stations.
As global coronavirus case numbers soar, China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism has urged Chinese tourists not to visit the hard-hit countries that include South Korea, Japan, Iran, Italy, France, Spain, Germany, United States, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Sweden, Belgium, Norway, Netherlands, Denmark and Austria.
To deal with the increasing number of imported cases, Jiangsu has decided to impose a quarantine of 14days on all visitors, both Chinese and foreigner, from the above 16 countries.
Strict measures have been taken on entry-exit epidemic control including requiring the inbound travelers to submit a declaration of health to screen people with epidemic symptoms.
In the meantime, authorities in Jiangsu have also strengthened cooperation with airports in Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao and Guangzhou by installing checkpoints at the airports in a bid to cope with the transfer of returnees from hard-hit countries.
As of March 17, Jiangsu had transferred 3249 international travelers, both Chinese nationals and foreigners, from Guangdong, Shandong, Hunan, Beijing and Shanghai. No confirmed imported cases have been reported so far.
Jiangsu has also placed the inbound travelers under the grid social governance system at the grass-roots level so as to ensure they are registered and well looked after during medical observation.
