East China’s Jiangsu Province will step up its efforts to further improve epidemic prevention and control, according to a meeting held Monday by the standing committee of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and the Leading Group for Epidemic Prevention and Control under the Provincial Party Committee. Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, presided over the meeting.
Lou Qinjian conveyed the gist of the important speech made by Xi Jinping at a meeting held by the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee last Wednesday on the prevention and control of the pneumonia epidemic caused by the novel coronavirus or COVID-19.
The prevention and control of the novel coronavirus epidemic is a war without smoke, Lou said, adding that General Secretary Xi Jinping has made important speeches and instructions on many occasions, which has provided a fundamental basis for us to win the fight against the epidemic.
Noting that epidemic prevention and control have entered a critical stage that requires stringent efforts, Lou stressed focusing on priorities without any let-up and strengthening prevention and control in areas where the epidemic situation is particularly serious or at greater risk.
He demanded resolute efforts from Party committees and governments at all levels to win the people's war against the epidemic and urged them to strive to achieve this year's economic and social development goals and tasks.

The CPC Provincial chief said that positive changes have been achieved in the epidemic prevention and control as the province has followed the decision-making policies of the CPC Central Committee with Xi Jinping at the core since the outbreak of the epidemic in Wuhan.

Efforts should be made to adhere to the general tone of making steady progress while maintaining stability, following the new development concept, adhering to high-quality development in the problem-oriented approaches, said the statement.
More targeted measures should be taken to help the more affected industries and enterprises to alleviate difficulties, protect and improve people's livelihood, step up production safety, promote smooth and sustainable economic development and strive to complete this year's goals and tasks, according to the statement.
The meeting called on Party committees and governments at all levels to minimize the impact of the epidemic to maintain steady economic performance as well as social harmony and stability, the statement said.
More efforts should be made to formulate policies and measures to cope with the impact of the epidemic. To better combat the epidemic, the country will increase funding and roll out targeted tax and fee reduction measures to ease strains on firms, while looking to offer discounted loan interest rates for producers of anti-virus materials, according to the statement.
The meeting also called for ensuring the orderly resumption of work and production in enterprises. At the same time, multiple measures will be taken to ensure a stable job market for college graduates and other job seekers, the statement said.
Foreign trade companies will get help to resume work at an earlier date and financing support to trade will be beefed up, the meeting said. The legitimate rights and interests of foreign investors will be better protected as the country pledges more efforts in improving its investment environment, said the statement.
According to the statement, the coordination of the epidemic prevention and control and the economic and social development is a "major battle" as well as a "big test," urging Party committees, governments and leading officials at all levels to shoulder their responsibilities and pass the test.
