The national emergency medical team from east Chinas Jiangsu province has been engaged in the construction of mobile cabin hospitals in Wuhan, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus epidemic that has claimed 723 lives and infected 34627 on the Chinese mainland.

The 37-member emergency medical team sent by Jiangsu Provincial Peoples Hospital is now making the final preparation for the treatment of the first batch infected patients in the mobile cabin hospital.

We are now preparing the treatment zone in the convention center which we have labeled as Zone D where there will 100 beds to be taken care of by the Jiangsu team, said Chen Xuefeng, head of the national emergency medical team from Jiangsu.

This mobile cabin hospital is designed with 2000 beds to treat novel coronavirus infected patients with mild symptoms.

The national emergency medical team consists of professionals from clinical medical care, medical technology, functional management and logistics support.

According to Chen Xuefeng, starting from Friday, the Jiangsu national emergency medical team has been making renovations on the installations in the mobile cabin hospital and improving the procedures to better prepare for the treatment of patients.

Now we have finished all the preparations, including the work shifts for coming days, said Jia Yan, deputy director of the Jiangsu national emergency medical team.

The construction of three mobile cabin hospitals in Wuhan, Hubei province has picked up steam since Monday night. The city will make use of its sports stadium and two convention centers, and renovate them into three mobile hospitals to offer a total of 3800 beds to treat novel coronavirus infected patients with mild symptoms.

Medical staff will be dispatched to the three hospitals to take care of patients who test positive for the virus — but show no severe symptoms — as soon as they are completed.

The patients will be transferred to Jinyintan Hospital, one of the city's designated hospitals to admit critically infected patients once they get worse in the cabin hospitals.
