East China's Jiangsu Province saw its foreign trade rise to 4.338 trillion yuan in 2019, accounting for 13.8 percent of the country’s total, according to a meeting of Nanjing Customs held in Suzhou on January 19.

The province’s imports and exports were 2.721 trillion yuan and 1.617 trillion yuan, respectively. Amid efforts to optimize the trade structure, the general trade accounted a larger percentage for three years straight. EU has overtaken the United States to become the largest trade partner of the province. Meanwhile, trade with emerging markets also kept increasing.

In last year, the province made great efforts to stabilize the foreign trade growth and discover new potentials. For example, over 10,000 Jiangsu enterprises were organized to participate 212 key fairs home and abroad. Jiangsu also had 10 new large warehouses located in Europe, the U.S., Africa and countries along the Belt and Road initiative. The province’s 14 overseas warehouses have a storage area of more than 160,000 square meters and facilitated business of more than 600 companies.
