Suzhou embroidery master Wang Lihua, who was born in Zhenhu, a town in Suzhou New District, showcased her embroidery works at the 2nd China International Import Expo, which concluded on Nov 10 in Shanghai, local media reported.
The works are mainly based on Dunhuang grotto murals. They integrate ancient Chinese culture with intangible cultural heritage Su embroidery, attracting the attention of many visitors.
Wang created a unique embroidery style to reproduce the visual matte effect and grainy texture of a mural.
Su embroidery originated in Zhenhu and is one of the four most famous embroidery styles in China, along with Hunan, Guangdong, and Sichuan embroidery.
Zhenhu town, the birthplace of Su embroidery, is home to more than 8,000 female embroiderers, two of whom have been honored as national inheritors of Su embroidery.
In recent years, Su embroidery works have been exhibited at many art centers, including the National Art Museum of China and Buckingham Palace in London.
