The total length of operational subway lines in Jiangsu Province increased by 27.2 kilometers to reach 622 kilometers on September 28 when Wuxi Metro’s Line 1 opened its southern extension part and Xuzhou Metro’s Line 1 also started trial operation.
Jiangsu now has five cities with subway lines in operation, namely Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou and Xuzhou, overtaking south China’s Guangdong Province to rank first in the country. Construction of a subway line in the province’s Nantong City is still underway.
Wuxi Metro’s Line 1 has extended 5.2 kilometers further to the south, with Xuelang, Gedaiqiao and Nanfangquan stations added to the network, bringing the total length of the city’s rapid transit system to 60.9 kilometers. The north-south Line 1 originally opened in July 2014, followed by the east-west Line 2 in December of the same year.
Xuzhou Metro’s Line 1, the first subway line of the city, runs east to west and construction started in February 2014. At the first stage, the newly opened subway line is 21.97 kilometers long and has 18 stations, such as Xuzhou East Station, Pengcheng Square Station and Luwo Station. The fare starts from 2 yuan and a full ride costs 5 yuan. On the first day, the subway line operated from 10:00 am to 9:30 pm. Later the standard operation hours will be 6:00 am to 9:30 pm every day.
