Jiangsu Cultural Carnival was held in Macao from Friday to Sunday to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 20th anniversary of the return of sovereignty of Macao to the motherland.
A series of activities were held during the carnival. Zhou Dongliang, the winner of the "Chinese Plum Blossom Award", the highest award of Chinese drama in Jiangsu, and the inheritor of the national intangible cultural heritage, performed the Pear Garden Fragrance to win thunderous applause.
The Peking Opera "Mirror Sea Spirit", co-operated by Jiangsu and Macao and written by Macao playwright Mu Xinxin, shows the cultural exchanges between the two regions.
Inheritors of intangible cultural heritages performed on the spot the making of intangible cultural heritages such as Suzhou embroidery, Jinling paper-cutting, gold foil, purple clay tea pot of Wuxi, Yangzhou lacquer ware while taught the visitors the basic simple techniques for production.
75 kinds of gourmet food and local snacks from Jiangsu turned out to be the biggest attraction for the visitors.
Time-honored brands from Jiangsu were promoted to reach out to the Macao residents.
Books of varied kinds were displayed to brief the Macao residents on the historical and cultural legacy and social and economic developments of Jiangsu.
Books specially planned for the return of Macao to the motherland were also promoted at the carnival.
The Carnival will continue until September 8th, giving Macao compatriots a chance to get close to Jiangsu, taste Jiangsu, experience Jiangsu and learn about Jiangsu.
