East China’s Jiangsu province recorded steady pace of industrial growth in the first half of the year. New technologies and new projects not only bred new growth engines, but also promoted the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries.
From January to July, the added value of the above-scale industries in the province increased by 6% year-on-year, which was the same as that of January-June, higher than the annual target and the level of last year, and slightly higher than the national average.
9 of the 13 prefectural cities posted higher industrial growth rates than the provincial average. The local monitoring shows that industrial production in July was generally stable, and the decline in industrial profits narrowed month by month.
Under the complicated and ever-changing international economic and trade situation, a large number of Jiangsu-based enterprises have sought active innovation and revolutionary changes that have promoted the development of the province’s strategic emerging industries by developing industrial transformation and upgrading and market demand for products and equipment.
Data show that from January to July, Jiangsu's major industrial sectors posted steady growth. The emerging industries such as pharmaceuticals, engineering machinery, ships, rail transit, photovoltaics, and software industries posted a growth rate within the range of 9%-25%. The traditional industries such as building materials, metallurgy, light industry and machinery have also witnessed steady growth.

At the same time, industrial investment in emerging industries has continued to lay a solid foundation for the province’s industrial growth and restructuring.
The province's industrial investment increased by 5.7% in the 7-month period, 1.5 percentage points higher than that of the first half of the year. Investment on industrial technology reform edged up by 10.3%.
From January to July, 402 large investment projects included in the province's key industrial investment plans fulfilled 70.7% of the annual plan, which is 12.4 percentage points higher than the scheduled progress.
Based on the current progress, 134 of the major industrial projects at the provincial level will be completed and put into production at the end of the year, providing a continuous supply of momentum for the steady growth of the industry under the downward pressure.
