238 tourist attractions in Jiangsu province are expected to include age as the criteria for free admission for children in addition to height.

This is in response to a joint call by consumer councils of Shanghai and Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui provinces.

Senior executives of 264 scenic attractions in the province were summoned by the provincial consumer council for a face-to-face meeting on free admission to children. 238 of them have agreed to follow the governments criteria for free admission for children in addition to height.

Attractions include Nanjing Hongshan Zoo, Nanjing Zhongshan Botanical Garden, Changzhou Tianmu Lake Nanshan Bamboo Sea.

These scenic spots support the initiative of giving consideration to both height and age and will announce details once measures are finalized.

More than 200 other scenic spots in the province, such as the Lingshan Zhanhua Bay of Wuxi and Suzhou Taihu National Wetland Park, have made similar responses.

According to the guidelines, children can still enjoy free admission to the 242 scenic spots, if their height exceeds the limit and they are under the inclusive age of 6 proved through valid documents.

Only 6.2 percent of tourist attractions in the Yangtze River Delta region give consideration to both height and age when offering free admission to children. The rest make height the only criterion, according to the Shanghai Consumer Council and other councils based on information from 1,000 scenic spots.

A survey by the councils revealed more than 50 percent of respondents said it was not reasonable to make height the only criterion when offering free admission to children to tourist attractions.

The survey covered 9,167 respondents in the Yangtze River Delta region. The move is expected to boost tourism.
