Thirteen Chinese nationals were killed and 31 others injured in a bus crash in northern Laos, the Chinese Embassy in Laos confirmed on Tuesday.
The crash happened on Monday afternoon when a tour bus carrying 43 Chinese tourists, one Chinese tour assistant and two Lao nationals including the driver and a tour guide, skidded off a road between capital Vientiane and the northern town of Luang Prabang, some 180 km north of Vientiane.
According to Jiangsu Jinling Business International Travel Service, the 43 tourists in the tourist group were mostly registered with its outlet in Jiangning district, Nanjing. Most of them are residents of Jiangning between 50 and 60 years old.
The Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and the provincial government have attached great importance to the treatment of the aftermaths. Lou Qinjian, the provincial party secretary, and Wu Zhenglong, the governor, have asked the relevant departments of Nanjing and the province to quickly carry out emergency response, cooperate with the Laos authorities, and treat the injured passengers.
All the injured Chinese were sent to hospitals and two of them were in serious conditions, the embassy said in a statement.
