The first Overseas Taiwan Youth Jiangsu Summer Camp opened Thursday in Zhenjiang. 53 Taiwanese teenagers from New York, Washington, Los Angeles and other places attended the opening ceremony.
At 9:00 am, the opening ceremony was officially held at the First Foreign Language School in Zhenjiang City, followed by the opening speeches and the performances by students in Zhenjiang and the overseas campers.
They performed folk music ensemble "Liang Zhu", violin solo "A minor first concerto", bamboo flute ensemble "Pamir's Spring, dance "Butterfly Love Flower", rap "Reading Tang Poetry" and other colorful programs.
It is the first time for a summer camp focusing on overseas Taiwanese youth to be held in mainland China.
Themed on joining hands to create a future, 53 overseas Taiwanese youth and 24 teenagers from Zhenjiang will visit the universities, families, enterprises, education bases and industrial parks in the 12-day period.
They will take part in classical Chinese learning, poem citation contest, Chinese classic music performance, experience of intangible cultural heritage and Chinese idiom games.
The goal is to enhance the centripetal force and appeal of the motherland to overseas Taiwanese youth, help overseas Taiwanese youths to experience the charm of China’s excellent traditional culture, and enhance their interest in learning Chinese and Chinese culture, thus attracting more overseas Taiwanese youths to enter Jiangsu and integrate into Jiangsu.
The overseas Taiwanese youth will also visit Yangzhou and Changzhou.
The summer camp is sponsored by the provincial office for Taiwanese affairs.
