It was the first time for three people of different ages and occupations in a prefectural city to donate their hematopoietic stem cell at the same time. A kindergarten teacher, a demobilized solider and an urban resident of Kunshan had their stem cell collected Tuesday at the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University.
24-year-old Tao Siyue, a kindergarten teacher in Kunshan, joined the China Marrow Bank two years ago. Recently, the Red Cross Society informed her that she turned out to be a perfect match of a leukemia patient. Tao did not hesitate a moment to make up her decision to donate her stem cell. She should have been in Xiamen to shoot wedding photos, but she and her boyfriend finally changed the schedule.
The 42-year-old Jia Yuegang is a demobilized soldier. Since 2012, he has donated 2,500 ml of whole blood and 48 units of platelets. At the beginning of this year, he signed a corneal donation book at the local Red Cross.
Wu Guofeng, a Kunshan citizen, also had his hematopoietic stem cell collected on the same day. In 2013, Wu Guofeng was a match of a leukemia patient, but failed to pass the high-resolution test and could not enter the donation process. In May this year, Wu once again received a phone call informing him of the match and the wish to donate hematopoietic stem cells was finally realized.
These hematopoietic stem cells were immediately sent to the hospital where the patients are hospitalized to give them hope of rebirth. Since hematopoietic stem cell donation was launched in 2002, Jiangsu has recorded the donation of hematopoietic stem cells by 753 donors.
