The manufacturing sector in Jiangsu province has introduced the intellectual brainpower to establish academician workstations and public technology service platforms so as to seek new changes in manufacturing. Against the backdrop of increasing downward economic pressure, Jiangsu's manufacturing industry has grown steadily and continued to climb to the mid-to-high end of the industry chain.

Zhao Chunjiang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, established the "Yueda Intelligent Agricultural Equipment Academician Workstation" in Yancheng to develop intelligent agricultural machinery, smart agriculture and cloud farm construction. Academician Sun Jinliang, the leader of composite materials research in China, has also established a textile workstation in Yueda to help enterprises expand into industrial textile materials.

In recent years, the complicated and ever-changing international trade market has exerted inevitable effect on Jiangsu, the largest manufacturing province in China. Under the downward pressure, Jiangsu has highlighted the introduction of intellectual brainpower rather than investing blindly in new projects to pursued speed-only development by launching academician workstations to enhance innovation and development.

At present, Jiangsu has 360 provincial academician workstations with over 3,000 staff to have undertaken more than 1,500 research and development projects. The province has also forged 13500 academician-business alliances. They work hand in hand to break the technological weak points for nearly 500 projects.

In order to improve innovation efficiency and reduce research and development costs, Jiangsu has added 12 provincial-level public technology service platforms this year, ranking first in the country with a total of 124.

The introduction of intellectual brainpower has greatly enhanced the independent innovation capability of the enterprises in Jiangsu. This year, the province will launch 302 new provincial-level enterprise technology centers and 6 state-level centers, involving a large number of emerging industries such as artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, nanomaterials, and biomedicine so as to gain the upper hand for future development.

The mixture of latest industrial technologies with the needs of enterprises has developed new products with good market prospects and high technological content to further free the province from low-end processing.

The annual sales revenue of cooperation projects between Jiangsu and the Chinese Academy of Sciences alone has exceeded 100 billion yuan.

In the first five months of this year, Jiangsu's industry grew steadily and its industrial structure was further optimized. The proportion of high-tech industries accounted for 44% of the provinces above-scale industries. The high speed growth of emerging industries the rising volumes of exports have combined to inject strong momentum of independent innovation into the province’s economic development.
