Jiangsu releases Low Carbon Development Report for 2017-2018

  East Chinas Jiangsu province released its annual Low Carbon Development Report on Wednesday to echo the 7th annual edition of the National Low Carbon Day.

  The report shows that Jiangsu reported positive progress in its low carbon development. In 2017 and 2018, the provinces energy consumption per unit of GDP decreased by 5.54% and 6.18% respectively from the previous year, over-fulfilling the target of annual decline by 3.7%.

  Since the beginning of the "13th Five-Year Plan" in 2016, the provinces energy consumption per unit of GDP has been cut by 15.5%, exceeding the targets for assessment.

  In 2017 and 2018, the province's carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP fell by 5.3% and 6% respectively, exceeding the target of annual decline by 4.5% and the tasks for the "13th Five-Year" period, continuing to maintain the leading level in the country.

  According to the report, Jiangsu has continued to optimize the industrial structure and other five aspects, and strive to promote low carbon economic development. At present, the service industry has become an important growth engine for the low-carbon economy.

  In 2018, the added value of the service industry in the province exceeded 4.7 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 7.9%, which was 1.2 percentage points higher than the GDP growth rate.

  In the meantime, Jiangsu has actively promoted the level of green manufacturing. In 2017 and 2018, Jiangsu registered the establishment of a total of 97 national green factories, 9 green parks and 4 green supply chain management enterprises, ranking first in the country.

  In addition, the total fertilizer use in the province in 2018 was reduced by 2.35% compared with 2017, and the use of pesticides achieved a negative growth.

  Jiangsu has also steadily promoted low-carbon development in cities and towns, and continued to exert its strength in constructing low-carbon buildings, developing a low-carbon transportation system, and advocating a low-carbon lifestyle.
