China saw a total of 95.98 million domestic tourist trips made during the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday, up 7.7 percent from the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Tourism revenue reached 39.33 billion yuan during the holiday which lasts from Friday to Sunday, up 8.6 percent year-on-year, according to the ministry.
Shanghai, Suzhou, Guangzhou, Beijing, Wuxi, Hangzhou, Changzhou, Nanjing, Wuhan, and Shenzhen are the top ten sources of tourists for this year's Dragon Boat Festival holiday.
Various activities staged across China to celebrate this year's Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, which fell on Saturday, also attracted a large number of tourists, according to the ministry.
Trips to coastal cities surged during the holiday, said the ministry.
Data show that in the week before the Dragon Boat Festival, consumers bought a total of 123 million zongzi, an increase of more than 250%. The sales of salted duck eggs have more than tripled compared to last year.
The Dragon Boat Festival falls on June 7 this year, making a three-day public holiday that lasts from June 7 to 9.
