Wu Zhenglong, governor of Jiangsu, met Friday in Nanjing with Vincent Price, President of Duke University of the USA.
Wu Zhenglong expressed his warm welcome to Price's another visit to Jiangsu.
He said that Jiangsu is a major economic power and also a powerhouse of science, education and culture, and one of the leading provinces for opening up to the outside world.
Wu noted that Jiangsu is now standing at a critical period shifting from high-speed growth to high-quality development and an important juncture to promote industrial transformation and upgrading, which determines that technological innovation is an indispensable important support.
Duke University and Wuhan University are world-renowned universities with rich experiences in running school and academic resources, as is evidenced by their strategic vision to have co-founded Kunshan Duke University.
The Governor hoped that Duke University will closely combine its world-leading advantages in academic research, pool of talentsand innovation with the industrial development needs of Jiangsu and even the Yangtze River Delta region so as to play a leading role in the research and development of science and technology, education reform, and talent cultivation and the high quality development and the promotion of higher quality integration in the Yangtze River Delta.
Jiangsu is willing to share with Duke University the opportunities brought about by major strategies such as the Belt and Road, the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region, the governor said, adding that Jiangsu, in particular Suzhou and Kunshan, will give support to Duke University's continuous development and growth and build a world-class university.
Price said that Kunshan Duke University has maintained rapid development since its founding and achieved gratifying results, which is inseparable from the strong support of governments at all levels in Jiangsu.
Duke University will join hands with Wuhan University to bring together high-end talent resources, actively integrate into regional development, and cultivate more high-quality talents to serve Jiangsu's development, and contribute more to the high-quality development of Jiangsu, Price said.
