A 17-year-old teenager from Jiangxi visited the People's Hospital of Jiangsu Province recently for follow-up consultation. He used to suffer from severe scoliosis, making him unable to stretch his back and his legs are not straight.
The boy surnamed Liu was diagnosed with scoliosis when he was 7 years old. He could not bend over and lie flat when he was sleeping. He was very uncomfortable when sitting.
In a ten-year period, the 4 surgeries consumed up the family’s savings. The surgeries, however, were not satisfactory due to the development of the body.
In 2016, Xiao Liu was fortunate to be the recipient of the China-US Joint Charity Project, and had three operations done by 2018. His postoperative recovery has been smooth, and his spine has finally begun to straighten. He is now able to hold up his head and throw out his chest.
